Al WEIGAND - Profile
With over 30 years designing and operating telecom networks in the carrier industry, Al has a wealth of experience and knowledge. As the chief technical officer for two independent local carriers, he has managed the selection and application of technology in support of business strategy in a competitive service provider environment. Among Al's achievements are the successful planning and launch of a profitable CLEC, the launch of a successful ISP, the development of one of the most highly regarded independent ILEC operations in the U.S., an early deployment of DSL, the deployment of Metro-Ethernet WAN services in a competitive market, and the successful launch of two hosted VoIP services.
Al has been active with industry associations such as the U.S. Telecom Association (USTA) and the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) as well as holding an advisory board position with a technology vendor.
He has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, an MBA, and is a registered professional engineer. He is also a member of IEEE and SCTE.
